We ALL have days when we would rather press the snooze button, or go the long way
home, or disappear on a device, but as parents WE have the chance to fill everyday with purpose OR let everyday pass us by.
So, here’s a few simple thoughts that help me enjoy my family life.
1) Portion Control
Find the portion size for your life & enjoy your meal – don’t over feed, over stuff, over commit & over fill your days & weeks.
Equally, don’t starve yourself and your family of you, or of good things (your family need time with you because you are awesome and a gift to them!).
2) Make the Calories Count
If you are going to give your energy and time to things, just make sure the calories count. We have a rule that nothing goes in the diary without a discussion – busy families need to plan. We take time to ensure the things we do are because either are they good or necessary!!
Some things we do because it’s right, and sometimes we do things because it’s fun, but keep a balance – life is about carrots AND carrot cake.
3) Don’t Eat Alone
Eating should be enjoyable! Find people who help you keep your appetite good, and find friends that are good for the whole family & life-giving. Spend time with others at your stage of parenting, share life experiences. Read blogs, books and anything that helps enrich the family experience.
4) Add More Flavour
Sometimes you just need to add a few new ingredients to life – not every day has to be the same or filled with the mundane, and when it has to be the same, try doing the same in a new way. Keep a check on the flavours, because when food is bland it’s a sure way to know later we are gonna want to binge on the wrong things!!!!
Here’s an excerpt of Solomon’s wisdom that I love…..
“Seize life! Eat bread with gusto,
Drink with a robust heart….
Oh yes—God takes pleasure in your pleasure!
Dress festively every morning.
Don’t skimp on colors and scarves.
Relish life with the spouse you love
Each and every day of your precarious life.
Each day is God’s gift….Make the most of each one!
Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily!” (Ecc 9 MSG)
Here’s to ‘making every day count, even in the small’.

This is excellent, Clare. We all need reminding of these principals from time to time! x
